001 Cross Stitch

Old “Singer” sewing machine with cat over a patchwork cushion.

Treadle Singer sewing machines are one of a kind!! When I saw this cross stitch pattern, I knew I had to make it. It brings me beautiful memories… when I was a child I had the privilege of being so close to my maternal grandmother. She was great with her sewing machine and actually, she studied pattern making and machine embroidery in the Singer Academy at her time. So she was a wonderful mum making clothes for herself, children y grandchildren. Every time when we visited my grandparents, my favourite place was her sewing room. I approached her sewing machine and she allowed me to touch every single thing. I remember the memory of opening the drawers (I can still remember the smell of the drawers, wood and lavender or any other soap used to coat thread instead of bee’s wax).

It is fair to say in this very first post, that the feeling I have every time when I am in crafting mood, is the sensation of being lovingly accompanied by her, cared, protected and simply happy to be there. That’s why, when I had to choose the name for this blog, I was looking for a phrase that could describe the state of mind that fabric, yarn and thread bring to me… The Jolly Stitch!

If you have a story to tell about a sewing machine, please do share it with me, I would love to hear them all!

Maria 🙂

    • Hi Chris, Thank you for reading my blog. when I saw first time this pattern immediately I loved it!! I know!! Is a very typical singer sewing machine! When I embroidered I was living in Mexico, but when I moved to England I left all my treasures at my mum’s house. I don’t have it with me, but I might get it next time I’ll be visiting my family.

However, this is a nice news!! There are some patterns on line which you can print just right now!! Please have a look:

Unfortunately I don’t have the colour guide but I can send you a better picture of the one I have and it may be a bit of a help.

I hope you comeback time to time to my blog.

      Happy stitches and many blessings!

      Maria xx
